Championship Football 2012
New Orleans Saints and LSU fall short
It’s been a tough year for football fans in Firecane media country. Well except for the OSU Cowboys, and even they got robbed of some true glory. The Saints finished off this roller coaster ride with a crazy 5 turnover shootout loss in San Francisco. Drew Breese did brake Dan Marino’s 25 year old season passing record, but super bowl expectations are now high in the nola. Football is now over in the Big Easy.
LSU had a legendary regular season only to lose the championship game in their home away from home; “The Benz”. Alabama beat them bad in a rematch game and the tigers only made it across the 50 once.
The Sooners started off strong and with big hype, but injures and some bad play provided a disappointing season. Mike Stoops is headed back to OU so maybe the defense will turn back to championship form. It hasn’t been since he left over 5 years ago. The salt in the wounds this season was the passing of Linebacker Austin Box.
Oklahoma St had their best season ever, winning the Big XII. But their only loss of the season kept them out of the big game. They also suffered tragedy that transcends sports when the second plane crash in their basketball program over the past 2 years killed numerous members of the women’s basketball team. The accident happened just hours before the Cowboys took the field in Iowa St for their only loss. Even worse, the winning field goal in the game looked good to me, even though it was called wide right. I think the Cowboys would have beat LSU or Bama.
Texas had somewhat of bounce back year. The lost OU in Dallas, but won the last meeting with A&M, which is a much bigger deal in the long run. The defense looked good all year and the offense made some improvement. Their QB and line play still looked a little shaky but is getting better. The longhorns have a real shot a contending again next year if their defense can go from good to great, or if david ash can step it up big time. My money is on the D.
Well it’s been long and fruitless football season in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. Thankfully, Mardi Gras and South by Southwest are right around the corner.

The
History of Mardi Gras
No
one really knows exactly how Mardi Gras was started. Many
other cities have similar celebrations and it is referred
to as Carnival in Rio and other spots in the Caribbean and
South America. Some people trace it to the Romans, whose
pagan orgies were held during the spring season. New Orleanians
have since formed numerous secret societies that have served
many charitable and social functions. They often help unite
the city with their parade's political themes.
