Mandeville is a city located in St. Tammany Parish in Louisiana. It is across the lake from New Orleans on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. The city was listed as one of the Top 100 Places to Live on relocate-america.com in 2004 and 2005.
In 1834, the land was agricultural and in 1840 Mandeville was incorporated as a town. Wealthy New Orleanians made Mandeville their popular summer destination in order to escape the city’s heat. Daily steamboat traffic between New Orleans and Mandeville became regular during the mid 19th century. Mandeville was the first city where jazz music became popular outside of New Orleans.
