Endymion
In legend, Endymion was a mortal man, so strikingly handsome that Selene, the Goddess of the Moon fell in love with him. They began a torrid affair that bore them many illustrious children, but there was one majorly sticky point. Selene was immortal and Endymion had to play by the same biological rules as you and I. Selene's solution was to cast a spell and make Endymion fall into a deep slumber, a permanent coma in which he never aged again but from which ne never awoke. Basically,even if Endymion does, you do not want to sleep through this one! The Krewe of Endymion set the precedent for just how big, bad, and over the top a super-krewe has to be. This parade is simply massive, and in addition it introduced the notion of celebrity royalty - a recipe for tons of Mardi Gras fun.
