The first Saturday in Uptown starts off with Pontchartrain. Named after the Sun King, Louis XIV's Minister of Marines. The lake north of New Orleans sharing its moniker with the Mardi Gras Krewe, is also named for the famous businessman. The Krewe of Pontchartrain was founded in 1975.
