The second day parade on the first Saturday of Carnival in Uptown New Orleans, Shangri-la was founded in 1973 as an all female Krewe. True to its name, the Krewe of Shangri-la always evoke a happy, lush, and paradisal environment for all of its spectators and revelers. It is one of the few parades named for a place rather than a mythical creature.
